Sossusvlei, Namibia

Personal shots from the desert dunes of Namibia; Sossusvlei is a popular one for travellers from all over the world. The otherworldly landscapes include some of the biggest sand dunes in the world, and petrified trees thought to have died up to 700 years ago … Viewing the landscapes from the air is an absolute must to put them into perspective, from plane or incredibly from the quiet luxury of a hot air balloon safari at dawn. Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi

Excited to share some images from an advertising commission at the end of April.
Shooting for Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi was amazing; a wide range of lifestyle images from locations including the iconic Louvre Abu Dhabi to the impressive rooftop of Berklee College of Music (from Norman Foster Architects).
It was a lot of fun and an interesting challenge to create 10 distinct standalone ads to showcase the variety of on offer at Saadiyat Island. See the whole set here.

Portugal, lifestyle photography

I recently travelled to Portugal to shoot a range of lifestyle imagery. It was great fun scouting the streets of Lisbon, finding angels and corners and shooting some cinematic images, full of details and the character that Lisbon offers. After a couple of days of shooting suits and a ‘business theme’ we went to the wild Atlantic coast for some more relaxed, beach and surf imagery. To see more click here.

Calanques National Park, France

Spending time in the Calanques, walking the hills at dusk with ‘that’ light is such a pleasure.

Marseille, France

I have recently begun splitting my time between London, Marseille (and Paris too) ! I love the south of France; the light of Provence, the bustle of the historic city and the Calanques National Park moments away, it’s a great place to spend time and offers so much for shoot productions too.

Adakoy, Marmaris, Turkey

In October I after covid restrictions had lifted I managed to get away to Turkey for a few days, for the end of summer 2021. There was some much needed rest and relaxation, mixed with some exploring the local national park protected area with views on the harbour and the Nimara Mağarası caves.

“A shore of mud and marsh” - Good Place Magazine

At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Lonely Planet Magazine had to shut its doors; devastating as I had been fortunate to be involved since it’s first issue, and had shot over 20 features for them. So it was a happy day when some of the LP team decided to begin their own magazine to continue the exploring ! … and I was thrilled to be asked to shoot for the first issue of Good Place Magazine, on assignment with writer Oliver Smith, another Lonely Planet veteran.

I was a little unsure what to make of the first assignment, estuary islands of Essex. However, true to form, a little bit of exploring revealed a whole side of the county I have never witnessed, and a mere 50 miles from my own home. Highlights included Mersea Island via its causeway (above), a drone offered new perspectives on the landscape. Also, walking the Broomway, ‘Britains most dangerous walk’ out to sea and along the sandbanks - and incredible experience, like walking on water for miles. Thanks to Tom Bennett for hosting. Beam Suntory - Cocktails to Go

Something a little different for me, in early 2021 I was asked to photograph some deconstructed cocktails for the launch of a new Subscription service for drinks brand Beam Suntory. Was fun working for a couple of days in the studio, with a great team from Hue & Cry agency, elated after months of isolation to finally be shooting this new project together.

Travel Photographer of the Year - exhibition in London

Pleased to see the Travel Photographer of the Year Awards exhibition at Coal Drops Yard in London. Earlier in the year I won the Best Short Film category, you can see the film here. Lots of great images on display !

Oak Fine Art Services - London

Recently shot new website images for Oak Fine Art Services including a new conservation space.

Success at Travel Photographer of the Year award

I am very pleased to announce that my short film ‘Bro’ has been awarded Best Film at the Travel Photographer of the Year awards. ‘Bro’, meaning countryside / landscape in Welsh, is a poem by T.H Parry Williams and narrated by Twm Morys; a contemporary poet and literary figure. It is about love of the land around Snowdonia (Eryri) and the divine, wondrous and wild beauty of Wales. I loved shooting this film, and set of stills alongside. You can see them on my website here. The textures and tones of the iconic mount Snowdon covered in snow is stunning.

In addition, I was happy to hear another shot got a Special Mention nod in the Best Travel Single Image category too. ‘Bar Las Teresas’, above, is a personal favourite shot of mine too, I love its cinematic quality. Shot in Seville, three men sit at a small table in animated conversation among a cluttered interior of old posters and paintings, plates and baskets for food, and a row of hanging cured jamón meat above the counter.

Autumn lockdown

DYNAMIC_VINES_S03_0049.jpg

Dynamic Vines - London

In September it was great to shoot new branding material for Dynamic Vines; a specialist distributer of biodynamic wine from independent producers across Europe. Typically Dynamic Vines had been a wholesale supplier to hospitality outlets, but their response to closures of hotels and restaurants due to Covid-19 was to rebrand, pivot and open up a physical and online store to also serve the public. It’s proved a very successful decision, and was pleased to be involved with the project headed by Comrade Design. To see more from our shoot, please click here.

Dining with Enzo - Road Rat Magazine

I travelled to Modena, Italy, with Road Rat Magazine. More a quarterly journal, their motto ‘A Thing for Cars’ sums up perfectly their approach and interest in any and all things related to the automotive industry. For my trip, we followed in the footsteps of Enzo Ferrari and visited many establishments he frequented, hearing stories from those who knew him, tasting his favourite dishes and learning he preferred his meetings at the dining table to the boardroom. East London - ELEMIS U.K

Townhouse textures in Shoreditch, London. Reference imagery for the skin care and beauty brand Elemis

Snowdon, Wales - film

Just before the Coronavirus lockdown I travelled to Wales with writer and friend Oliver Smith. We were doing a story about solitude on Mount Snowdon; one of the busiest (perhaps even the busiest) mountain in the world by some metrics. I was shooting footage to make into a broader documentary film. The aim was to cover sparse winter landscapes, through to the mass tourism during bank holiday weekends and long summer days, when the mountain was closed to visitors. Hopefully in time we can pick up where we left off with the project, but in the meantime I was able to make this short film.

Oliver wrote a feature of our experience for Outside Magazine, you can read it here and see more of my stills here.

Holbox, Mexico

Very lucky in early 2020 to escape the winter and head back to Isla Holbox in Mexico. The car-less small island is a designated nature reserve, but as popularity has increased so have beautiful boutique hotels.

Samsung KX - Cheil Worldwide (South Korea)

A short film to showcase the design interiors and experiential space of Samsung KX, at Coal Drops Yard in London.

The space is full of interactive and experiential elements, under the curving wood panelled roof. Visitors can get hands one with new products, and glimpses of new tech not yet released.

Lonely Planet - Mauritius

Really pleased to see the feature layout from the Mauritius story I shot last year (2019) - and love the cover shot as well, very happy with it. One of my earlier shoots utilising the drone, and now I love the versatility and extra perspective it can bring a feature like this.

Lonely Planet - Polar Nights, Sweden

The end of 2019 saw time for one last trip, this time to northern Sweden. Once in the Arctic circle, I had the chance to witness the polar night where the sun does not rise about the horizon. However with a full moon throughout much of the day, and clear skies, it rarely had chance to get dark. Thanks to the friends and contributors along the way, including curios reindeer and affectionate huskies.

Lonely Planet - Brač, Croatia

I have travelled around Croatian islands in the past, in the south, but this was a first trip to the island of Brač, which sits above the arguable more famous Hvar. An ancient limestone island with Roman history, bustling with boutique hotels and home of the famously instagrammable Zlatni Rat Beach.

Lonely Planet - Finland

Visiting Helsinki was a first for me, I really liked the city. It’s easy to get about this smaller, compact European city, but there’s lots to explore. The key to happiness and the motto of the Fins seemed to be a good work // life balance, and just “keep it simple”. After the city we headed to the far north into the arctic circle to discover some summer-time activities … in the rain.

TUI - Menorca

Great to be working with the team at TUI again, this time in Menorca, Spain. A new set of hotels with a different atmosphere. The busy hotels make it challenging but quite fun working out the spaces and the angles.

Lonely Planet - Salzburg, Austria

I recently travelled to Salzburg, Austria, loosely to mark the 55th anniversary of the Sound of Music but also as it’s a beautiful, small city to showcase. Walking tours, puppet shows (that’s Maria Von Trapp) and, naturally, beer gardens all on the agenda. Feature to be released soon in the October issue of Lonely Planet Magazine.

TUI Group - Tunisia

I was recently commissioned by TUI Group to photograph for brand in Tunisia, shooting at one of their Sensimar (Adults only) hotels. There was a range of areas to focus on in the brief, mixing hotel interiors and more still life setups gave the shoot a really nice feel and good diversity.

Lonely Planet - Mauritius

I had a very nice commission recently, spending a week in the tropics of Mauritius. The trip featured climbing mountains (third highest in Mauritius at 812m), beautiful hotel visits and a great opportunity for some drone shots for new perspectives - I was really happy with the results.

At the top of Le Pouce mountain we had the company of this little guy, a monkey who took great interest in trying to get the snacks in my camera bag. Fortunately he had no fear and it was fun to get some up close and personal shots

Dolomites, Italy

A departure from beaches and sand, snow mountaineering ! I just shot a days hike to the Tre Cime (Three Peaks) in the Dolomites. A long and exhausting day, but absolutely worth it ... with light all day long. See more here.

Yucatan, Mexico

In December I went to Mexico for the first time, to the Yucatan peninsular. A particular highlight was Isla Holbox, a large nature reserve in the north. It’s becoming an increasingly popular destination to include in any trip to the region.

And of course no trip to Yucatan is complete without a swim in a cenote; a natural underground ‘cave-pool’. See more here.

Sanctuary Retreats - Egypt

I recently travelled to Egypt for Sanctuary Retreats, shooting promotional for their Nile Cruise packages. Travelling between Aswan and Luxor on Sun Boat IV we shot a variety of interiors, experiences and excursions available.

Audi Magazine - Tel Aviv

Commissioned by Northstar publishing for the Audi customer magazine, I shot a feature in Tel Aviv about the (relatively) booming popularity of veganism. A week spent exploring different areas of the city, particularly the bustling promenade. Very pleased to feature on the cover of the magazine too.

Sunday Times Travel Magazine - Istanbul

Istanbul is one of my favourite cities to visit and photograph; I always get carried away shooting on and around the Galata Bridge. Before this I was there over a bitterly cold winter; this time the height of summer. I visited new areas around Balat distrcit as well as some familiar sights which always promise great shots …

Lonely Planet Magazine - Sri Lanka

This is the second time i’ve been to Sri Lanka, and I loved it as much as the first time i visited. I headed to the lesser-travelled northern province to the city of Jaffna, stopping along the way at the hugely impressive temples at Anuradhapura and Mihintale.

Lonely Planet has named Sri Lanka as the top destination of 2019 so it was great to feature on the cover.

Lonely Planet Magazine - Tokyo

Tokyo is a city like no other i’ve been to, and it’s brilliant. This was my second time there and I spent 8 days moving around the city seeking out the weird and wonderful, and often uniquely Japanese, and had a fantastic time. Robot restaurants, cat temples, maid cafe’s … Godzillas on rooftops.

Sunday Times Travel - Ireland

For some reason I had never made it to Ireland, until now. Shooting for Sunday Times, it was a great introduction driving the Wild Atlantic Way, 2,500km along the west coast. It has so many dramatic highlights, like the Cliffs of Moher and Slieve League, but my absolute favourite was and the end of the Dingle peninsula. These 3 images were taken about 1km apart, a moment where nature largely did my job for me; the light, landscape and weather was phenomenal.
